Boys & Girls Clubs activities are organized into 3 Core Youth Program areas which include the following:

Academic Success

Programs in this Core Program Area enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations and embrace technology to achieve success in a career.

Art With A Heart – Our year-round fine arts program, provides members of all ages with weekly lessons and activities in drawing, painting, digital photography and other media. As suggested by the name, the artwork produced by our members centers around various themes that promote good character, empathy, civic engagement, and community. Beyond producing artwork for the Clubs, members also have the richly rewarding opportunity to participate in local, regional, and national art exhibits and competitions which provide the well-deserved attention and positive reinforcement that enable our members to thrive.

Youth Education Success (Y.E.S.) – Modeled after Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s nationally evaluated Project Learn, our Y.E.S. Program is a comprehensive academic success initiative that combines six different components to meet the educational needs of at-risk youth. These components include: 1. Power Hour, homework help and tutoring; 2. Learning Today, computer assisted reading and math instruction with an individualized monitoring and assessment system; 3. Mentoring; 4. High-yield activities such as reading and writing educational games; 5. Parent and community involvement, and 6. Collaboration with schools.

Maximizing Out Of School Time (M.O.S.T.) – The summer M.O.S.T. Program serves to decrease “summer academic loss” by providing daily academic, social, fitness, and cultural arts activities during the summer months.  The program includes: 1. Daily reading activities in reading, math and science; 2. Organized physical fitness activities and water safety; 3. Eating nutritious breakfasts, lunches and afternoon snacks approved by the US Department of Agriculture; 4. Sessions focused on social and life skills, character and leadership development, family involvement and a community service learning project.

SAT Prep – This vital program allows teen members to participate in a ten-week New England Prep SAT course at their local Club. Members learn test-taking strategies for both the math and verbal sections of the SAT that have been proven to improve students’ performance on standardized tests.

Skill Tech –The goal of the Skill Tech Program is to familiarize youth with technology, particularly basic computer skills, productivity software and Internet use. Through fun, hands-on, engaging lessons and projects, members of all ages develop proficiency with various software programs and navigating the Internet. For our advanced members, Skill Tech also gives them an opportunity to learn the engineering behind the computer.

Good Character & Citizenship

Youth programs in this Core Program Area empower youth to support and influence their Club and Community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process and respect their own and others' cultural identities.

Keystone Club – The Keystone Club is the Boys & Girls Club Movement’s most dynamic teen program. It affords teens an opportunity to gain valuable leadership and service experience. They conduct activities in three areas: academic success, career exploration and community service.

Torch Club - Torch Club is a powerful vehicle through which Club staff can help meet the special character development needs of younger adolescents at a critical stage in their development. Torch Club members learn to elect officers and work together to implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness and social recreation.

Youth of the Year - Youth of the Year is BGCA’s premier youth recognition program for Club members ages 14-18. It promotes and celebrates service to Club, community and family; academic performance; moral character; life goals; and poise and public speaking ability. Each year, a panel of judges selects a local Youth of the Year from finalists chosen at each of our 12 Clubs.

Healthy Lifestyles

Youth programs in this area develop young people's capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.

Snack and Supper Program -   The Snack and Supper Program offers a free nutritious snack and supper to every member Monday thru Saturday. The program provides our members with the nutrients that they may not be receiving at home due to income insufficiencies or inadequate information on healthy eating behaviors. Snack and Supper also strives to have a lasting impact on our members by introducing them to new, healthy foods that they will continue to incorporate in their diets into adulthood.

Saturday Snack Pack Program – To further respond to our members’ nutritional needs, the Saturday Snack Pack Program provides them with a healthy take-home snack that they receive upon their departure from the Club.  Snack packs include items such as cereal and milk with a granola bar, canned pasta/meat dish and fruit juice. This ensures that our members will have something to eat on Sunday when the Clubs are not open. 

CATCH Nutrition Education Program – Designed to teach members in grades 1-8 about the components of a healthy diet, the CATCH Nutrition Education Program is new to our lineup of healthy lifestyles programming. BGCBC understands the importance of empowering our members to make smart nutritional decisions. Thus, the CATCH program was implemented to educate them on good and bad food choices using activities that make learning fun and impactful.

Physical Fitness – In addition to daily physical fitness activities that build aerobic endurance and strength in our members, BGCBC also offers athletic programs that promote teamwork and fair play. Our athletic leagues, which include basketball, flag football, and cheerleading for all ages, allow members to learn about different sports while also working with fellow members.
